Book Marketing June 22, 2007

One of the projects I’m working on right now is to help promote a book written by a colleague. It’s a great book from what I’ve read so far, but it hasn’t gained any kind of momentum in terms of sales. A few of the ideas that I’ve brainstormed so far is to contact influential TV personalities or ask prominent bloggers to write a review, but other than that I don’t have many more ideas as of yet. It’s something I’m working on, but I’d like some other input. Any interesting ideas?
I would a few things
1. Press release with quotes from book and emphasize a keyword phrase the book addresses. Use a service.
2. Write an article that related to the book and distribute to the article websites where webmasters may reprint it for content.
3. Send postcards to organizations whose members may be predisposed to the book’s subject matter.
4. Distribute T-shirts with a provocative quote from the book and website address in small print. Free to random buyers of the book. If the quote catches on sale the t-shirts or liscense the quote.
5. Start a clickbank.com affiliate program for the book
good luck
What is the title of the book? What subject(s) does it address? If you post those–at least the latter–you may receive feedback slightly more tailored towards your needs, or rather your friend’s book’s needs, which can aid in its general promotion. Otherwise I’d say gramps3 has some capital ideas.
The title of the book is “The Eyes of the Ship” by Jim Moore. It is a book about fatherhood as it relates to the story of the Titanic. It is a very interesting perspective and a great book, however it has not sold well at all. I’m still working on a few ideas and gramps3 definitely had some great points to get me started, but anything more specific would be welcomed. Thanks!
Hmm a book about fatherhood–an interesting market to tap. I need to think about this one.
